A painting reconstructed by subtracting the features (latent) recognized by AI from a portrait by Andy Warhol. In the process of compressing an image into latent space and probabilistically reconstructing it, generative AI produces residual differences—information it deems “non-essential.” This work extracts only those remnants. For AI, these are errors or noise. Yet even within these fragments, we perceive traces of a face, a sense of human presence.

​ウォーホルのポートレートから、AIが認識した特徴量（latent）を差し引き、再構成したペインティング。生成AIが画像を潜在空間へ圧縮し、確率的に再構成した過程で生じた差異―AIが“重要ではない”と判断した情報のみを抽出。これらは、AIにとっては誤差やノイズだが、私たちは、この断片からでも、顔の気配や人間らしさを感じ取る。

A painting reconstructed using the features (latent) recognized by AI from a portrait by Andy Warhol as its primary motif. While Warhol reduced art to surface, AI likewise processes the world superficially through vast computation. Even language and concepts are translated into visual images. In an era where everything is rendered retinal, where all becomes image—where does this excess of surface ultimately lead?

ウォーホルのポートレートから、AIが認識した特徴量（latent）をモチーフに、再構成したペインティング。ウォーホルは芸術を表層へと還元したが、AIもまた、膨大な計算によって世界を表層的に処理している。言葉や概念でさえ視覚的イメージへと変換され、あらゆるものが網膜化していく時代において、過度な表層性はどこに向かうのか。
